R&D NVH

When used in a research & development environment, PLATO is typically used for:

  • Benchmarking of prototype and/or competitors' products
  • Quantifying the NVH effects of design and/or manufacturing changes
  • Quantifying the sensitivity of product NVH to torque loading
  • Quantifying the sensitivity of product NVH to product and/or lubrication oil temperature
  • Quantifying changes in NVH signatures with time (durability/endurance testing)

Product comparison and system testing

  • Testing of a wide range of products under comparable speed/load conditions
  • Quantifying NVH characteristics of combined powertrain drivelines (e.g. gearbox and transfer case/axle combinations).

Reduced pressure to achieve fast cycle times

  • Provides more scope for comprehensive instrumentation (e.g. proper attachment of accelerometers, alignment of laser vibrometers etc.)
  • Allows the use of longer ramp times (speed and/or torque), which generate higher density (finer resolution) NVH data
  • Allows investigation of resonance build-up
  • Allows torsional oscillation investigations to take place
  • Allows comprehensive transmission error (TE) measurements to take place
