Purchasing Manager

Location: AB Dynamics, Bradford on Avon UK

We are looking for a Purchasing Manager to join the Operations Department to head up the purchasing function.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the purchasing of electrical and mechanical components for given products/projects
  • Resolve any delivery or quality issues in an efficient manner to prevent delays in the delivery of product to our customer or manufacturing teams
  • Forecasting levels of demand for the products to meet the business needs and maintain stock at the appropriate levels
  • Build strong working relationships with current key suppliers and improve the supply chain where applicable
  • conduct research to source the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • Confidently liaise and negotiate with suppliers - Direct & In-Direct
  • Confidently liaise and negotiate with internal stakeholders 
  • Ensure company, ISO and EHS policies are adhered to
  • run tenders, evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
  • negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided
  • manage and motivate a team of procurement staff
  • liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, internal teams such as supply chain, planning, marketing, IT and sales, and customers
  • develop strategies to make sure that cost savings, inventory targets and supplier performance targets are met - or exceeded
  • undertake value for money reviews of existing contracts and arrangements
  • ensure the security and sustainability of sources of essential products and services
  • forecast price trends and their impact on future activities
  • give presentations about market analysis and possible growth
  • develop and implement a procurement strategy
  • analyse data and produce reports and statistics on spending and saving
  • ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives
  • attend meetings and trade conferences
  • keep up to date with trends and innovations, regulation and new technology that can impact on the business


 Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 10 years business experience gained in buying
  • Experience of leading a small team
  • Strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation
  • Excellent face-to-face and telephone conversation skills
  • Solid background in managing material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries 
  • Able to evaluate and monitor key supplier performance and implement the necessary corrective action

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in an electronics manufacturing environment
  • Relevant purchasing qualifications in CIPS or equivalent
  • An understanding of lean principles and continuous improvement
  • Good understanding in mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of machining and processes
  • A background in purchasing within an engineering organisation
  • Experience working with ISO9001 and 14001 environmental standards Lead/internal auditing to ISO9001 standard


Person Specification

  • Good MS Office skills, particularly Excel and Word
  • Flexible and open to change
  • Proactive and committed to continuous improvement
  • Willing to take ownership and be accountable for decisions and actions
  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
