Project Engineer - ABD Solutions

Location – Bristol/Bath/South West (Hybrid)

Role Overview

ABD Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join its product development team. The team are responsible for the demonstration and development of the retrofit driving and object detection autonomy products that are being used to bring vehicle autonomy to a new range of markets, not previously serviced by AB Dynamics Ltd.


About the Role

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a wide variety of fleet operators, end users and vehicle operators from a wide range of domains including the Defence sector, heavy industry and mining and manual handling equipment.

The role will involve working with the products to assist the development of the new solutions for each market as well as demonstrating the products in a customer facing environment.

The role will also include the through-life support of the products and the constant promotion of the products and new technologies to customers which will feedback into the refinement of the product range to suit new applications and customer requirements.

The role will provides the opportunity for UK and worldwide travel to assist customers on site as well as providing demonstrations at client facilities etc.


Responsibilities

  • Test and development activities for new retrofittable solutions and product phases
  • Track and non-road based vehicle operation for sensor and new technology development
  • Fulfilling product test and development plans and reporting of test activities
  • Collating data from sensors and hardware to support product develop teams
  • Supporting future product development by translating customer needs into technical specifications
  • Supporting customers with the training on and use of existing products and extending product application
  • Product ownership and maintenance throughout the product life cycle Demonstrating the use of existing and new products to support the sales process


Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Mechanical or physical sciences background
  • Experience in simple workshop / vehicle maintenance activities
  • Strong mathematical literacy 
  • Self-motivated and practical approach to problem solving
  • Familiar with (or ability to learn quickly) the use of data loggers or data acquisition systems (e.g. Racelogic, HBM, dewetron etc)
  • Familiar with control system design and sensors (e.g. PIDs etc)
  • Methodical and logical approach to tasks
  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to fulfil written and verbal instructions
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to travel
  • Driving License
  • Experience in automotive engineering
  • Knowledge of vehicle mechanics
  • A working knowledge of electrical systems (e.g. motors and drives)
  • Computing skill with an interest in coding (Matlab, Arduino or similar)
  • Knowledge of digital communication in vehicle (CAN)
