SSTM
The Steering System Test Machine or SSTM is able to accurately apply forces and displacements to the steering rack and measure resultant loads and displacements. It is used to precisely characterise steering system performance and to enable effective development of steering or driver feel.
Forces are applied either at the road wheel or at the steering wheel, during either quasi-static or dynamic testing at up to 40Hz. The rig can be operated in either standalone mode or in Hardware in the Loop (HiL) mode.
