ABD participated in a recent project to evaluate the use of steering robots for winter testing, with particular focus on path following on low-friction surfaces. The project was in collaboration with Luleå University of Technology in Sweden and coincided with a presentation and demonstration at the SATS seminar.
An SR30 steering robot from ABD was used to perform a variety of manoeuvres on snow and ice, using a range of different winter tyres. Path-following performance was excellent and allowed repeatable high-speeds tests such as slaloms and laps of a handling circuit.
